Read how I received a free copy of Nickelodeon’s “Let’s Learn Colors” and “Dora & Blues Clues Double Feature: Dora’s Musical School
Days and Blue’s Big Musical Movie” just in time to help cure the “summertime blues” with a lazy PJ day!
Summertime is in full swing at my house! For us that means lots of fun day trips, busy afternoon activities, out-of-the-ordinary adventures, late night shenanigans, and lots of family, friends and fun fun, fun! I love every minute of our “throw-routine-out-the-window” summer and want to make the most of it before school starts up again.
However I recently noticed that all of the late nights and fun of summer were starting to take their toll on my kids. One morning this week my kids were feeling a tad lethargic and grouchy and I realized that they had a case of the “summertime blues.”
I decided that the only way to cure our summertime blues was to cancel any plans for the day and declare it a Pajama Day. My son was so excited when I told him that we (myself included) would be in PJs all day!
We started our day with a breakfast picnic in our backyard of cereal and toast. Then we built forts in the living room where we played board games and did puzzles all morning.
For the afternoon we moved the forts around the TV, and popped some popcorn for a lazy summer afternoon. I decided that since we were felling a little blue, that “Blue’s Clues” was just the ticket! We popped in Nickelodeon’s “Dora & Blue’s Clues Double Feature: Dora’s Musical School Days and Blue’s Big Musical Movie (available on DVD July 23rd, retailing for $16.99) and put on “Blue’s Big Musical Movie.” If you hurry, you can preorder the double feature on Amazon for just $11.99!
During this full length Blue’s Clues movie, Blue, Steve and the neighbor cat Periwinkle, all work together to put together a backyard musical show. They do all the prep-work for the show with a little help from the kids watching at home. They put together a set, create costumes and write a song for the show with assistance from G-Clef (who I later realized is voiced by Ray Charles).
The movie was a big hit with my kids! My 21 month old loved Blue and Periwinkle and was thoroughly entertained by them. I wasn’t sure how much my 6 year old would enjoy the movie but he also loved it! He loves putting together his own little musical plays with his cousins, so he could really relate to the movie and enjoyed it a lot! It was such a big hit that I think we will have a back-to-school PJ day when we will watch the other movie included on the DVD “Dora’s Musical School.”
Nickelodeon is also releasing “Lets Learn: Colors” which is a DVD compilation of Bubble Guppies, Dora the Explorer, Team Umi-zoomi, Blues Clues and The Wonder Pets! all focused on learning
colors on July 23, (retailing for $14.99) which would also make a for a fun, lazy afternoon movie.
After finishing the movie, we ended our PJ day by having “breakfast-for-dinner French toast” (recipe coming soon) and going for an evening walk around the neighborhood. It was a fantastic lazy day, and was just what my kids needed to cure those summertime blues. I know it worked because the next morning the kids were back to their bouncy, spunky, ready-for-adventure, selves!
