Whether it’s sleep, a rockin’ bod, money or bladder control, we all lose a bit of ourselves when we take on the title of “mom”. But thanks to a fresh perspective and my sponsors at Poise those losses have become big time gains!
Like most ladies, when I became a mom my life changed in so many
ways. I would have never guessed that being a mom would be so challenging yet so rewarding at the same time. I knew that when I became a mom there would be a lot of sacrifices. What I didn’t know, however is just how thankful I would be for all of those sacrifices. Here are a few of the things that I have lost since having kids, and how each of those losses has really been a gain!
1. Money– Between diapers, clothes, birthdays, outings and everything else that comes with having kids, money seems to be something that is often lost for things for the kids. However, this has taught me to be more wise and frugal with what we have and that is something that I am thankful for.
2. Sleep– Whether it’s staying up with a crying baby, getting a few extra chores done or just up late worrying, moms lose sleep! While I do miss it, what I have gained is an appreciation for quiet early mornings or the stillness of night when I can just be alone with my thoughts. I also am learning how to prioritize and make the most of the time I do have, so that I can get a few precious hours of sleep!
3. My Body– I am not someone who has ever had a super-model pre-baby body. However, I look back at those “before baby” pictures and would kill to have that body back. After having my second baby, I gained a lot of “baby/ post-baby” weight. I have been working away at it, and it is finally coming off (she is almost 3). I am thankful for that though. Without “losing” my body, I would not have had to work so hard to learn how to eat healthy and get fit. While I may not look like my pre-baby photos yet, I know that I am actually living a healthier lifestyle than the “pre-me.” Without gaining that weight, I don’t think I would have made those healthy lifestyle changes.
4. Sanity– Some days I just feel like I have totally lost it! I used to be so organized, on-time and on top of everything! Now, let’s just say, I am not! But amongst all of the insanity, I have found how to be happy in chaos! I have learned the fun of building a pillow fort and jumping in it, or getting covered in mud in the backyard. It kind of feels like I have lost my mind sometimes, but I do think my organized, routine-based mind could use being lost for an hour or two!
5. Bladder Control– Lets be honest, we all know that our bladders just aren’t what they used to be before having kids! One big cough, a hearty laugh or a “bless you” worthy sneeze can now take me out, like never before! It’s embarrassing, but it’s comforting knowing that I’m not alone in this! What I have gained from this “loss” is a great life lesson! I have learned that in life sometimes you just can’t be in control of everything. This is a hard pill for me to swallow, as I like to be able to control all of the situations in my life, so that they turn out just the way I planned. Well…news flash! Sometimes life hands you a “big sneeze” and things transpire that you just are not expecting or hoping for.
So, what can be done about it? In the case of loss of bladder control, I rely on a little preparation and a good friend. This friend is the new Poise® Microliner made for light bladder leakage. Thanks to its super absorbent material, it allows me to be confident, worry free, and prepared when light bladder leakage strikes.
Such is the case when it comes to other little moments of mishap in life. I have learned that if I have done my best to be prepared, then if things don’t always go as planned and I lose a little “control” I can allow myself to just “go with the flow,” let things work themselves out and rely on friends and family when needed!
If you want to gain a friend that can help you appreciate the loss of bladder control, then be sure to check out the Poise website. There you will meet my good friend SAM (super absorbent material) and you can even invite her to make a visit to your home in the form a free sample or coupon! Invite SAM into your life and learn how a loss can be a gain for you!
