There is nothing quite like cooking with fresh garden herbs and spices. Not all of us have the climate, space or green thumb for growing our own, so it is nice to be able to rely on brands such as Gourmet Garden. Gourmet Garden specializes in the growing, harvesting and packaging of prepared herbs, spices and seasonings with all of the freshness us cooks deserve. New to their line of products is Lightly Dried, which just launched in Northern California. I was sent 5 of the Lightly Dried spices and herbs to test out in my kitchen, and I can attest to the freshness and quality. When I opened up the chili peppers, I was impressed with the smell, but also the beauty of how fresh they looked! They tasted great too!
Lightly Dried features organically grown herbs that are washed, roughly chopped and lightly dried, allowing the herbs to remain fresh for up to four weeks and are easily refreshed with a little water, stock or cooking oil. I decided to whip up a simple and healthy version of Turkey Larb, using items I already had on hand, and the Gourmet Garden Chili Peppers and Cilantro. This is such an easy dish to prepare, and comes from Thai Larb Gai, with some simple changes. Thai Larb is typically made with a rice powder and mint leaves, but the fish sauce is also what gives it it’s great flavor. I am working on eating clean and omitting carbs, so I took out the rice powder and switched the mint leaves to spinach. Totally different flavor, but fun and easy, and healthy too!
If you can’t get your hands on herbs straight from the garden, then Gourmet Garden is an excellent way to go. Such great flavors and freshness.
