Overnight Refrigerator Oatmeal

by Emily Buys Leave a Comment

For a couple of years now, I have heard about Overnight Refrigerator Oatmeal, and finally decided to try it. There are so many recipes, so I decided to make up my own, and I’m pleased with how it turned out. My kids haven’t quite gotten on board with the idea of cold oatmeal, so I just give them the Yulu Yogurt (which I use to make my overnight oatmeal), and the hubby and I get the oatmeal to ourselves. So good!

There are two key ingredients to refrigerator oatmeal, and the rest can be experimented with. First you need oats, and second you need a tasty yogurt, such as my new favorite Aussie yogurt, Yulu! From there you can add different sweeteners, fruits, nuts, etc. Once you have the basics down, you can run wild with your imagination and add-ins.

What I love about using Yulu yogurt is the flavor. You get the feeling of a full bodied Greek yogurt, but the sweetness and creaminess of something else. With 9 grams of protein in a cup, I think Yulu makes for a great add-in to the oatmeal because it’s creaminess will balance out the texture of oats. Yulu is smoothed twice for extra creaminess, so it’s unlike anything you’ve tried before. Tons of flavor too!

Change up the flavor of yogurt, depending on the flavor of overnight refrigerator oatmeal you’d like to have. For example, if you want a peanut butter banana oatmeal, then use vanilla yogurt. If you want blueberry oatmeal (my favorite) then use the blueberry yogurt. Play with the flavors!

For my overnight oatmeal, I use some 1/2 pint mason jars leftover from my wedding. They were all decorated with burlap, and didn’t want them to go to waste, so now I have oatmeal in pretty little jars! The lids are missing, so I just cover each jar with a small square of foil. It works perfectly, and I feel like the jars and yogurt/oatmeal is cute enough to serve to company.

Oatmeal you can make the night before, and enjoy in the morning. Nice and cool for a hot summer day.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup rolled oats
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup Yulu Yogurt flavor of your choice
  • 2 tsp honey or maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup blueberries or other fruit - can omit, or add extra for garnish if desired
  • 1 Tbs chocolate cocoa optional, for chocolate flavors
  • 1/2 pint jar

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients in jar, and shake with the lid on. If your jar is too crowded, stir until combined, in a separate bowl. Transfer back to the jar and store in the refrigerator overnight.
