During the past couple of months, I have been educating you on the various uses for Skype. As I have said before, I am a huge fan of Skype because it allows my husband to stay connected with our family, while he is away at school, during the weeks. It is also a great idea to use Skype to keep in touch during Summer vacation. There are a variety of ways you can do this, but first I want to tell you how this worked out for us.
Just last week, I drove my kids to Idaho to visit my in-laws. My family reunion, for my side of the family, was in Utah during 4th of July week. Instead of driving home with hubby, I sent him with my parents, so he could get back to school, and I trekked onto Idaho. That meant for a 12.5 hour drive home; just me and the kids. I was a little nervous about it, but knew it would make for a great adventure – and it was. While we vacationed in Idaho, we were able to keep in touch with dad, and fill him in on our day’s activities. The kids built bug boxes with grandpa, we went boating – and each of the kids got to take turns driving grandpa’s boat, I ate grandma’s delicious cooking, etc. We used Skype to show dad the pictures I took while boating, and just to let him know how much we missed him. We like to say nightly prayers as a family, and we will typically use Skype to let dad be in on the occasion, when he’s not with us. It works out great! In the coming week or two, I plan to go visit hubby and have an over-nighter. 😉 While we are away, and will be glad to do so, I’m sure we will Skype with the kids to say goodnight, before they go to bed.
Some other ideas for Skype uses while on vacation are: using GroupMe, which allows you to group text message with travel partners. This would be great if you plan to trek all over Europe, Mexico, or just Tennessee. You can use a Sony Bloggie to capture video of your vacation and livestream it to friends and family back home? I think this would be super cool! Next stop – get Clever housewife a Sony Bloggie!
Oh, and hubby’s personal favorite use for Skype: Capturing photos of me in compromising shots, or while having my face all screwed up, while we are Skyping.
How will you use Skype to keep in touch with others, during Summer vacation?
“I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Skype. I received Skype credits to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for participating.”
