Last Minute Gift Ideas for Kids
I just returned from the movie theater where I watched “Rise of the Guardians” with the kids. On our way home I noticed tons of people still wrapping up their Christmas shopping at ToysRUs, and many other stores. If you are still racking your brain on what to give your kids, I have a few last minute gift ideas for you.
One of the season’s hottest new toys, or reinvented toys rather, is the Furby! The Furby was the first successful domestically-aimed robot. Furbies were sold from 1998-2000, then again from 2005-2007. They became very rare and hard to get. Then the Furby was re-released, as an updated version, in September of 2012. In the new line, there are sixteen color choices, which ensures your child should be able to get their favorite colored Furby.
Furbies start out by speaking Furbish, which is the universal language of all Furbies. As you get to know your pet Furby, and communicate with it, they start learning more and more English words. Other than the many color choices, the new Furbies have more expressive LCD eyes, a wider range of motions, its own iOS app, and the ability to adapt its personality in reaction to user behavior. They are quite cool indeed! The only thing you need to be aware of is that with the new version of Furbies, they got rid of the on/off switch, and replaced it with a reset button. It is supposed to go to sleep after a minute of inactivity. This does mean that something CAN set it off unexpectedly. Still loved by the kids though!
Next up is the popular app, turned into a game that everyone can play: Draw Something. With over 20 million downloads in it’s first 5 weeks of launch, Draw Something is loads of fun. Just like with the app, players can take turns drawing pictures for each other, and guessing the key word. In the “board game” version of Draw Something, players can earn coins for either being the artist, or guessing the key words. The first person to earn 15 coins is the winner. The drawer takes a peek at a playing card, to see what they need to draw, to have the guessers guess the word. The first person to guess, shouts out the word. You can earn more coins for more difficult items. Sounds easy enough right?
Lastly, are the Lalaloopsy Headphones. I spotted these at ToysRUs and thought they were so cute! With Lalaloopsy dolls such a sensation, the headphones are great for giving little girls their own Lalaloopsy style. When I first received these, I thought the ear cups were so cute, looking like giant buttons, but I was nervous that they would be really hard. They are actually cushioned and make for a comfy fit. You also have volume control, which is a nice added feature. Don’t let the Amazon price on these scare you, because they were less than $20 when I saw them at the store. I want to say I spotted them for $12.99, but I can’t say for certain.
Happy shopping, and I hope you all have a Merry Christmas!
