This past weekend I stayed at the Hotel Union Square with my family. Let me just say that I was blown away. The real test? The kids were blown away! When I told the kids we were going to meet up with daddy at a hotel this weekend, they were a little disappointed. After getting online and showing the kids pictures of the awesome kids’ suite we would be staying in, they were over the moon. The pictures don’t even do this suite justice because it has so much to offer.
In one half of the kids’ suite is a king bed with a very comfy modern feel. Included is a safe, refrigerator and plenty of snacks available for purchase. I wasn’t sure of what to expect in regard to the layout of this room. So let me try to describe it.
The kids’ room is attached to the room with the king bed. It is actually quite open and just divided by a room divider full of books. It doesn’t lend itself to a lot of privacy, if that’s what you are going for. However, this WAS NOT a problem for us. Having a family of six, we actually got an adjoining room to the suite, with an additional queen bed. We put two kids in the king bed, two in the kids’ room in the colorfully fun twin bed and hide-a-bed, and the hubs and I took the extra room with the queen bed. Worked out perfectly!
The kids’ suite offers much more than sleep for the kids. With downtime, the kids were able to play Wii, games on the computer, read, build with blocks, and the little girl loved the Hello Kitty stationary she got to play with. Kids were in heaven!
I can’t forget to mention the amazing view from our hotel room. We had a corner room of the Hotel Union Square, which overlooked the cable cars! We were right on Powell, where the cable cars start and finish. I haven’t stayed at any of the other Personality Hotels, but the location of this was was superb. I had a giant Macy’s across the street, H&M next door, Disney store around the corner, and of course, the cable cars!
Located right in Union Square, we were so close to some great shopping and yummy food. We were able to walk to an Indian restaurant not too far away, and come back to the hotel to r-elax and play some games. When we got back to our room after dinner, we were greeted with the Cheap Date Package…….
One thing you should know is that with as with most hotels in San Francisco, parking is not included. Hotel Union Square offers valet parking, but the lot they use is quite expensive. My husband did a little searching before we left and found a lot a couple of blocks away at about half the price. Then with the cable cars being so close, you can get anywhere you need to! Worked out great. The kids are already asking when we can go back to that awesome kids’ suite!
